Summer Wrap Up and Middle School Kick Off

So here's some actual irony for you: things worth writing about happen and I get too busy to write! But a few things of note from the past month or so:

* In July, you went on a road trip with your friend Katelann, her mom Denise and a girl named Mackenna from your grade. You drove ... I don't know, a lot. I think it was originally supposed to be 12 hours, but you said it took longer ... to Florida and stayed in a condo. You guys did stuff almost every day: swam with dolphins, went to an amusement park, a water park, rented a pontoon and drove it to a private island where you collected shells. There was a big storm that drenched you guys on the way back from the island and Miss Denise got lost, but you obviously made it back. Eventually...

* While you were in Florida, your dad and I snuck away to Mexico for a few days. My soul is much happier now that I've had beach in my life.

* On Monday, you had WEB day (Where Everybody Belongs or as your dad calls it Where'd Ehrmastuff Be-goin'). Basically an intro day to Middle School so you could find your classes, meet your teachers, learn the lay of the land without all the other students around. Originally you were upset because none of your friends are on your floor (sixth grade is split into two teams, one per floor). But as your very wise parents told you, you'll meet new people and find ways to talk to your friends. Both of which have come true.

* Yesterday was your first real day at Harpool Middle School. You ride the bus now. Your principal, Mr. Smith, is a nut. He's funny with a dry sense of humor. You're in theater (your first ever elective) and really like your teacher Mrs. Hinojosa so far. Actually, heading into day 2 you liked all of your teachers. I hope we can keep it that way, but you seem pretty hell bent on being cranky these days, so I'm nervous.

* You got your hair cut super short (fluffy as you call it) and started wearing more make up. You've also started stealing clothes from your dad and I. It seems like old rock band T-shirts are getting popular again, but we don't really have many. Your dad did give you a Doors shirt and some parachute pants that used to be his though. Pretty cool!

I'll have to write more later. I'm behind at work and I need to work on my book (cover is done so now it's just me we're waiting on!).

Love you, kiddo

Mama
