At the end of this week, you will officially be able to claim that you survived the first 9 weeks of middle school. Sort of. Despite wearing a mask ALL THE TIME for the past 18+ months, you managed to get Covid. You came home from school with a temperature of almost 103, so I pretty much knew then. But we went to the doctor and got you tested, only to confirm that yep: all of our efforts were futile. You spent about 3 days with a fever, several more days with a headache, burning eyes, sore throat and exhaustion. We didn't really quarantine you away from your dad and I since we'd obviously already had plenty of exposure by the time we were able to confirm, but neither of us had symptoms. Thank you, vaccine! My dad got Covid even WITH the vaccine and was miserable for weeks. Anyway, I'm super pissed people around here are selfish dumbasses and think vaccines and masks don't work. They would work if everyone got/wore them. I still really want to move to Spain.
Anyway, when we aren't hiding from the world, a few things have happened:
- You have your first crush. I haven't met her and know literally nothing about her except her name is Chevy. She gives you cute jewelry and you got her a silly, little frog ring. You have a matching one. Frob!
- My book is published! Which is exciting. But it's been hard getting the word out so I haven't sold many copies yet. I hope some day you read this and laugh because it's so popular. But right now it's difficult to get it going without breaking the bank.
- I'm not sure how interested you are in it anymore, but your YouTube vlog has 6,860 subscribers and your most popular video has 586k views.
- You auditioned for your first play. You got called back, so we were all wildly excited and I'm super proud that you put so much energy into preparing your piece. As we expected, as a 6th grader you didn't get a big part, but I'm curious to see what you do with your "interactive waiter" role. Apparently you'll be serving the audience, but also engaging them, asking questions about who they think committed the crime, etc. Should be fun!
- As far as I can tell, your first report card will be pretty good. You still struggle with math, but we worked on it together during your Covid lockdown, so hopefully it clicks a little more. Regardless, I think you'll have a B in math and As for everything else. Not too shabby!
- If all goes well, we're going to the lake house to see Linda and David this weekend while you're on a 4-day weekend from school. Logistics have been annoying and we currently have no one to watch the cat, so TBD on that one. I hope we get to go. We all need a break.
